We love caves and want to share this world with others. We hope to inspire visitors to learn about cave and karst natural and cultural resources, to develop an appreciation for caves and karst landscapes, and to share this appreciation with others. It is our passion for cave and karst that drives our design concepts for unique learning experiences.
The Cave Discovery Zone will open at our headquarters, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, with the launch of our first experiential exhibit—the DropZone. Visitors will learn rope climbing, rappelling, and other techniques used to explore and study caves, as well as some of the basic science behind the rope fun. We hope to inspire visitors to learn about cave and karst natural and cultural resources, gain an appreciation for caves and karst landscapes, and share this appreciation with others.
The Hidden Voyages exhibit is the second phase of the Cave Discovery Zone and the first interior permanent exhibit. When it is complete, you can go on a voyage of exploration of the world of caves and karst. Starting with an interactive globe showing the Earth’s karst areas, Hidden Voyages will scale down to a crawly cave passage for those up to the challenge. Voyagers will follow the journey water takes as it flows underground, creating cave passages along the way to where it reappears on the surface as a karst spring.
